Duct Smoke Detector Replacement in Austin, TX
Duct Smoke Detector Replacement in Austin, TX
Does your HVAC duct smoke detector need replacement? Avenger Security / Security Tekton provides duct detector testing, replacement, wiring repair and shutdown verification for commercial fire alarm systems throughout Austin and Central Texas.
When should a duct smoke detector be replaced?
Replacement may be appropriate when the detector is failed, physically damaged, contaminated, no longer serviceable, has an unreliable sensor or power board, cannot be reset, has failed functional testing, or is incompatible with the existing control arrangement.
Common signs a duct detector needs service or replacement
- Detector will not power up
- Persistent trouble condition
- Detector will not reset after testing
- Failed smoke-response test
- Failed shutdown relay
- Damaged housing or sampling tube
- Water or environmental damage
- Obsolete or unsupported detector
- Remote test station no longer functions
- HVAC replacement changed the required control interface
System Sensor D4120 replacement option
The System Sensor D4120 is a 4-wire photoelectric low-flow duct smoke detector designed for commercial HVAC applications. It operates from 24 VAC/DC or 120 VAC, supports airflow from 100 to 4,000 ft/min and includes two DPDT Form-C relay contacts for fan shutdown and auxiliary control.
We can evaluate whether the D4120 is appropriate for the existing application, including power source, sampling tube, remote test station, fire alarm interface and shutdown sequence.
Replacement is more than changing the detector housing
A duct detector replacement should include verification that the detector is correctly powered, the sampling arrangement is suitable for the duct, the fire alarm input operates correctly, the control relay changes state, and the intended HVAC shutdown sequence actually occurs.
What we verify after replacement
- Detector power and normal status
- Alarm response
- Trouble response where applicable
- Fire alarm panel indication
- Remote test/reset operation
- HVAC fan shutdown
- Control relay operation
- System reset and restoration
- Central-station signaling when included in the approved sequence
Existing HVAC equipment may be the real problem
If the detector operates correctly but the air-handling unit does not shut down, the issue may be in the HVAC control circuit rather than the duct detector itself. This is especially common after air-handler or rooftop-unit replacement when the original shutdown wiring was not reconnected to the new equipment.
